Francis Sharp

F, b. 1810, d. 1894
Her married name was Dowden. Her married name was Roach. Francis Sharp was born in 1810 at Kentucky. She married Hugh Roach, son of Mr Roach and Miss Neel, on 2 August 1830 at Ray County, Missouri; Hugh Roche and Franky Sharp.1 Francis Sharp and Hugh Roach were associated circa 1835 at Ray County, Missouri; The evidence identifying this Hugh Roach as Hugh Neel's second daughter's son is circumstantial, but compelling. John Neel Jr identified Hugh Roach as her son; this suggests he knew him, probably both in Kentucky and Missouri. This Hugh Roach is in Ray County, Missouri during the same timeframe as many Neel, Aker, Downey relations. Francis Sharp's brother John probably is the same John Sharp who was in Madison County in 1820.
email correspondence from Barbara Sharp Proffitt (9/2/05): "I know that he (Hugh Roach) m. Frances Sharp on 02 August 1830 in Ray County MO. She was the sister of my great grandfather, John Sharp (Hugh and Francis) had a son, Charles b. in 1831.Oral family history states that Hugh became homesick for Ireland and took Charles and started down the road. Frances ran out to him and took the child. She said he could leave, but he could not take Charles."
 Barbara Sharp Proffitt (BSPROFFITT@aol.com)
[Even though the oral tradition says Hugh Roach was "homesick for Ireland," this does not necessarily prove he was born in Ireland]. Francis Sharp married Robert Dowden on 16 August 1846 at Ray County, Missouri.1 Francis Sharp and Robert Dowden appeared on the 1850 Federal Census of Dist 75, Ray County, Missouri, enumerated 15 November 1850, In the household are Robert Dowden's children from his first marriage, Lucinda, James, and Martha Dowden (Roach). Also in the household are Francis and Robert's children Nancy and Susan. Living in the neighboring dwelling is Anderson Sharp, probably Francis' brother.. Her children Charles were listed as living with her.2 Francis Sharp appeared on the 1860 Federal Census of Fishing River, Ray, Missouri, enumerated 28 July 1860. Her children Robert and Susan were listed as living with her.3 Francis Sharp appeared on the 1870 Federal Census of Fishing River, Ray, Missouri, enumerated 31 August 1870, Listed as "Frank" Dowden, living in the household of John Sharp, keeping house, born in Kentucky..
