Hugh Roach

M, b. circa 1805
Hugh Roach was born circa 1805. He was the son of Mr Roach and Miss Neel. Hugh Roach married Francis Sharp on 2 August 1830 at Ray County, Missouri; Hugh Roche and Franky Sharp.1 Hugh Roach and Francis Sharp were associated circa 1835 at Ray County, Missouri; The evidence identifying this Hugh Roach as Hugh Neel's second daughter's son is circumstantial, but compelling. John Neel Jr identified Hugh Roach as her son; this suggests he knew him, probably both in Kentucky and Missouri. This Hugh Roach is in Ray County, Missouri during the same timeframe as many Neel, Aker, Downey relations. Francis Sharp's brother John probably is the same John Sharp who was in Madison County in 1820.
email correspondence from Barbara Sharp Proffitt (9/2/05): "I know that he (Hugh Roach) m. Frances Sharp on 02 August 1830 in Ray County MO. She was the sister of my great grandfather, John Sharp (Hugh and Francis) had a son, Charles b. in 1831.Oral family history states that Hugh became homesick for Ireland and took Charles and started down the road. Frances ran out to him and took the child. She said he could leave, but he could not take Charles."
 Barbara Sharp Proffitt (BSPROFFITT@aol.com)
[Even though the oral tradition says Hugh Roach was "homesick for Ireland," this does not necessarily prove he was born in Ireland].
