Thomas Edmund Neel was adopted in 1947 at Salt Lake City, Salt Lake, Utah; by Victor and Fay Brady Slade and took their surname. As of 1947, Thomas Edmund Neel was also known as Slade. He died in April 2009 at Salt Lake City, Salt Lake, Utah, at age 77.

Thomas Marion Neel

     Thomas Marion Neel was born on 18 February 1853 at Lexington, Lafayette, Missouri. He was the son of John Neel Jr. and Clemency Litten Casper. Thomas Marion Neel appeared on the 1870 Federal Census of Peoa, Summit County, Utah, in the household of his parents, John Neel Jr. and Clemency Litten Casper.1 Thomas Marion Neel married Ann Eliza Palmer, daughter of Edmond Francis Palmer Sr. and Eliza Ann Palmer, on 14 February 1878 at Peoa, Summit, Ut. Thomas Marion Neel and Ann Eliza Palmer appeared on the 1900 Federal Census of Peoa, Summit, Utah, at Dist 139, enumerated 2 June 1900.2 Thomas liked to fish as is apparent from an incident that took place when he was about fifty years old. According to this account in the Salt Lake Herald newspaper: "Coalville, August 22. Thomas Neel was arrested and fined $10 for snagging fish. Neel lives in Peoa, and when brought into court yesterday declared that he ought to be punished for being caught so easily. He entered a plea of guilty."3 Thomas Marion Neel and Ann Eliza Palmer appeared on the 1910 Federal Census of Peoa, Summit, Utah, at Dist 168, enumerated 12 May 1910.4 In December 1910, only a few months after his wife died, a horse fell on his leg breaking it. According to the newspaper account, he suffered considerably as a result of the accident. His sister Romania and her husband James Beddo came from Vernal to stay with him and help him get back on his feet.5 He raised sheep for a living along with farming his land, but sold his sheep business in 1923.6 Thomas Marion Neel died on 8 May 1928 at Peoa, Summit Co, Utah, at age 75 of diabetes; "Last Tuesday at his home in Peoa, this county, Mr. Thomas Marion Neel, a highly-respected and long-time resident of that town passed on to his final rest. Deceased had been a resident of Peoa for sixty years, and had followed farming during that time. He was seventy-five years old. Funeral services will be held tomorrow, the 12th, at Peoa meeting house, Bishop H.A. Jorgensen, officiating. Mortician G. M. Archer of this city will have charge of the funeral." Park Record 5-11-1928.7 He was buried on 12 May 1928 at Peoa, Summit Co, Utah.
