William Downey

M, b. circa 1827
William Downey The evidence that this William Downey is the son of William Riley Downey and Anna Neel is indirect and fragementary, but all the individual pieces together are somewhat compelling. In 1850 he was living in Weston, Platte, MO, which is near Ray County where he had many relations. The older brothers in this family appear to have had wanderlust as second son, Silas, is in California mining for gold during this census. Perhaps Silas and William Jr left together for the West and William only made it as far as Platte County. He also is the right age, 23 yrs old at this time, and he was born in Kentucky. Finally, his profession in the 1850 and 1860 census was brickmason, which was a common occupation in his extended family.
1860 Census shows Wm Downey living in Litchfield, Montgomery, Ill age 33 Brick Mason, born in MO
md to Lucia born in Ill, daughter Francis 1 yr old, born in Ill. He was born circa 1827 at Missouri, USA. He was the son of William Riley Downey and Anna Guess Neel.
