     Joseph Ferrin Palmer was born on 7 October 1802 at Topsham, Orange, Vermont. He was the son of Abner Palmer and Mary Harvey. Joseph Ferrin Palmer married Mary Ellen Haven, daughter of John Haven and Elizabeth Howe, on 9 January 1833 at Holliston, Middlesex, Massachusetts; Joseph F. Palmer and Mary Haven of Holliston, Intention to Marriage Dec 9, 1832; Joseph Palmer of Hopkinton.1 Joseph Ferrin Palmer was baptized in the LDS church on 7 April 1839. He and Mary Ellen Haven appeared on the census of 1840 at Holliston, Middlesex, Massachusetts.2 Joseph and Mary and children emigrated from Massachusetts to Nauvoo, Illinois, along with other members of the extended Haven family. Eliza Ann said this of the journey: "In 1841 we left our native home for Nauvoo. Arrived there in May traveling by Canal, Railroad and Steam. The first to greet us on landing were our Prophet Joseph Smith and
Brigham Young. After shaking hands and bade us welcome Brother Joseph’s first question, had we any place to go, there were 4 families in the county. We had, for 2 of my half sisters were there."3 Joseph and Mary signed a petition to the US Congress asking for redress for the loss of property in Jackson County, Missouri.4 He was ordained a seventy in the LDS church in 1844 in Nauvoo, Illinois.5 Joseph Ferrin Palmer and Mary Ellen Haven appeared on the 1850 Federal Census of Great Salt Lake, Utah Territory, enumerated 1850, where a 5-year old girl named Emerantha, born in New York, is also living with the family. Joseph's occupation is given as shoemaker. There were several shoemaking factories in Holliston, Massachussetts where the family lived prior to emigrating to Nauvoo. Joseph may have been employed in one of these factories.. Their children Edmond Francis and Mary Ellen were listed as living with them.6 Joseph Ferrin Palmer and Mary Ellen Haven appeared on the 1860 Federal Census of Great Salt Lake Ward 8, Great Salt Lake, Utah Territory, enumerated 22 June 1860. Their children Edmond Francis were listed as living with them.7 Joseph Ferrin Palmer married Adeliza Lauretta Truman in 1865 at Salt Lake City, Salt Lake, Utah, USA. Joseph Ferrin Palmer appeared on the 1880 Federal Census of Peoa, Summit, Utah, enumerated 9 June 1880.8 He died on 7 November 1885 at Peoa, Summit, Utah, at age 83.
