Godfrey Dearborn

     Godfrey Dearborn was blessed on 24 September 1603 at Willoughby, Lincolnshire, England.1,2 He was the son of William Dearebarne and Agnes Hay.1 He was a weaver by trade in the village of Hannah.3 Godfrey Dearborn married Lucy Richardson on 23 June 1629 at England.1 Godfrey Dearborn married Ann (?) in 1631.1 Godfrey Dearborn emigrated before 1639 from England; and settled in Exeter, NH. On 5 June 1639 he signed the "Exeter Combination," an agreement for self-government signed by 35 men, at the establishment of Exeter, NH. Godfrey was one of the followers of Rev. John Wheelwright, the founder of Exeter, who was from Alford, Lincolnshire (just a few miles from Hannah), and was banished from the Mass. Bay Colony in 1639 along with his flock, for supporting his sister-in -law, the celebrated Anne Hutchinson, in the Antinomian controversy. He moved to Hampton, NH between 1648 and 1650.4,3 He left a will in 1680 at Hampton, Rockingham, New Hampshire, USA; I Godfreey Dearbarne of Hampton in the provenc of New Hampshier in New England Being aged and Inferme of Body * * * I give and Bequeath Unto Dorothy Dearbarn my loveing wife for the term of her life my Dwellinng House & Barne & orchyard and the Use and Improvementt of all my land both Areable land pastuer & marsh land for her Comfortable subsistenc Duering the terme of Her life, and the use and Improvementt of all my moveables within Dores and withoutt Duering the terme of her life
